The Economics Area provides managers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and policymakers with the framework and tools to make and evaluate various business decisions and policies. The aim is to develop the capacity to analyze the economic environment in which business entities operate. The expertise of the area helps participants understand how managerial decisions can vary under different constraints imposed by the economic environment and with a focus on the functioning of markets, the behavior of firms, and other economic agents. In addition, the area emphasizes the application of modern principles and methods of economics to real-world business problems in different contexts.

The faculty in the Economics Area has expertise in the fields of Applied Economics and Econometrics, Development Economics, Monetary Economics, International Trade, Labour Economics, Health Economics, and Public Policy Analysis. The area has a good track record of publications in many reputed national and international journals such as Economic and Political Weekly, Economic Modelling, World Development, Applied Economics, World Economy, and Keio Economics.

The area offers compulsory courses such as Managerial Economics, Macroeconomics, and Indian Economy. The area also offers elective courses such as Econometric modeling and its applications for business, Game Theory, Pricing Strategies, Global Economics, Health Economics, Economics of Climate Change, and Public Policy Analysis.
