A webinar on the theme "Co-existing with COVID-19 Crisis: Challenges and Resilience in Tourism & Hospitality Industry was organised at IIM Sirmaur on 12 June 2020 at 4PM- 5:15 PM. The theme of the webinar was in tandem with the ongoing global crisis and its impact on the tourism and hospitality industry.
The panellists involved academicians and practitioners from India and abroad. The web panel discussion was also attended by the Director, IIM Sirmaur, Professor Neelu Rohmetra, in which she expressed views and observations about the discussion. The panellists included Ms. Mika Eoka, International Sake Sommelier and Lecturer from Japan; Dr. Yanki Hartijasti, Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas from Indonesia; Professor Manjula Chaudhary from Kurukshetra University; Dr. Anil Gupta from University of Jammu, and Mr. Lalit Kumar, Head Chef- Intercontinental Hotel, London.
The panellists talked on a range of issues that not only apprised attendees about the current situation of the industry, but also gave them a scope to visualise the future challenges and scenarios in the sector. The attendees were also given the opportunity to forward the questions, which they had from particular panellists via the dedicated webinar email address. The major aspects emerged out of the discussion entailed the "the new normal" for industry stakeholders, scope of micro tourism in the post COVID-19 world, control on "over-tourism", role of governing and affiliated organisations toward research and recovery, imminent structural changes, and need of optimism for revival in future.
The webinar was well received as the number of registrations went above four hundred and positive reviews were received from the panellists and attendees alike.
