Swachhata Pakhwada
IIM Sirmaur observed “Swachhata Pakhwada” from 1 September to 15 September 2019. During this period IIM Sirmaur campus was vibrant with various activities and events related to cleanliness, identification of waste, waste segregation, waste disposal and water conservation. The special focus of this year’s Swachhata Pakhwada was on working towards making the campus and surroundings plastic free. The HRD Ministry under the ‘Observation of Swachhata Pakhwada’, 2019 desired that "Single-use Plastic" should be avoided. In view of the same, IIM Sirmaur has spread awareness regarding harm the use of plastic is causing to the environment. Faculty, staff and students of IIM Sirmaur took active part in the initiative and distributed jute bags to the residents of the adjoining hamlet. They sensitized villagers on the harmful effects of plastics. They urged people to use jute or cloth bags. Besides that to create awareness regarding water conservation students were asked to photograph water forms. As a consequence, the students came up with the idea of river ‘Yamuna’ in her different avatars. They contributed by tagging the photographs. The students also initiated E-waste collection drive with an objective of a safe disposal so as to prevent any harm to the environment.
