IIM Sirmaur organized Plantation drive and sensitization session on Solid waste management in the occasion of Swachh Himachal Abhiyan
In the wake of ongoing Swachh Himachal Abhiyan week from 9th to 15th August, Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Management (CSEM), IIM Sirmaur has conducted a plantation drive at its temporary campus in collaboration with Sankalp, CSR Committee, IIM Sirmaur under the able guidance of Director Professor Neelu Rohmetra on August 12th, 2021. Prof. Arpita Ghosh (CSEM coordinator), Prof. Amrinder Singh (Chair-Sankalp), Prof. Devika Vashisht (Chair-UBA cell) have joined the plantation drive along with other officials and students to plant mango, guava and kinnow saplings in the campus.
Also, a sensitization session on solid waste management was conducted by CSEM on August 12th, 2021 with housekeeping staff and gardeners at campus. The discussion was started off by Research Associates of CSEM. In the sensitization session, the ground level workers were informed and made aware about the difference between dry and wet waste for solid waste handling and segregation. It was discussed that biodegradable waste can be used for biocompositing and dry waste can sent for proper recycling. The Swachhta Action Plan was elaborated to promote waste segregation at source for possible reuse and recycling of dry waste in an economical manner. The session was concluded by Prof. Arpita with the remarks that ‘Waste is not a waste, Waste can be a wealth if properly managed’.
