Biography

Dr. Ujjwal Kango graduated from PEC University of Technology in Chandigarh with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he spent four years working as a Lead Engineer for General Electric's Gas Power Systems unit. Following his stint in the industry, he completed his Ph.D. at IIM Calcutta. His dissertation focuses on platform work and broadly explores the impact of digital platforms on the organisation of work. The thesis involved an ethnographic fieldwork in two Indian cities examining the impact of algorithmic management on workers and the lived realities of platform work. Beyond platform work, his research interests include the future of work, business and work history and India’s power sector. During his leisure time he enjoys cooking, gardening and playing the flute.
