Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur graciously hosted Mr. Aman Nigam, one of our esteemed alumni, for the guest lecture series Reminiscence, organized by the Alumni Cell, on March 4th, 2023. Mr. Nigam spoke on the topic "Working in Start-ups vs. Working in MNCs."
Mr. Nigam outlined the benefits and downsides of working at a startup and emphasized that working in a startup provided him with excellent exposure and experience, but at the same time, it left him with little personal space. With multinational corporations, progress is stagnant, whereas working for a startup instills a sense of responsibility.
He also talked about the difference between marketing and sales, mentioning marketing as an art. He also commented on the politics of the workplace, stating that workplace politics is unavoidable as it is a human tendency and that one must learn to deal with it.
He remarked, "Being an artist is all about freedom," referencing the time when he was balancing his corporate employment and stand-up comedy career, and he emphasized the significance of work-life balance and freedom.
