Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur welcomed Mr. Miheer Agnihotri, Founder, Homestory, Human Resources Consultant- Home Care R & D at Unilever, and Former HR Partner, Pfizer- Hospitals division, for the guest lecture series Colloquium, organized by the Placement & Corporate Relations Committee. He was invited to address the topic: Understanding the placement process from the eyes of an interviewer.
He shed light upon the different thought processes in the interviewer's and interviewee's minds. There are three basic assumptions- One, whether the person is open to hiring you; two, whether you are fully interested; three, pre-read and questions. Pre-work must be done to build your world view; avoid seeing the forest for its trees.
Mr. Agnihotri went on to speak about the importance of working at a place of your interest. That should always be one's priority. He also mentioned the three ego states (consistent patterns of feeling, thinking and behaviour that we all possess), called Parent, Adult, and Child. He then said that Adult to Adult communication should be used during an interview. A point shouldn't be proven forcefully, one must be respectful. Language must be simple, examples should be given, jargon should be avoided. Also, one must be assertive rather than aggressive and be confident if one believes they are correct.
Further, he ended the session after making the session a lot more interactive through live interviews amongst the students of IIM Sirmaur, to which he gave his input to help the audience understand how the process goes around. We appreciate his insightful session and believe that his vastly relevant experience will assist the brilliant minds at IIM Sirmaur in achieving success during the interview process.
