IIM Sirmaur Celebrates International Yoga Day in Online Mode
On the occasion of 6th International Yoga Day on 21 June 2020, IIM Sirmaur organized a Yoga Session in online mode. The session was open for everyone. The event witnessed participation from across the country. According to Professor Neelu Rohmetra Director IIM Sirmaur, this year's Yoga Day event is organized on the theme of Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family because of Covid-19 pandemic. During the session, she said that Yoga is very important to fight with multiple kinds of diseases. Covid-19 is one of them. As IIM Sirmaur is a top notch institution of management education in the country, she said that practicing yoga can help a lot in improving the management skills of IIM Sirmaur fraternity on professional as well as personal front.
Earlier, the session began with an online discussion by Shri Anand B Singh who is the director of Foundation for Vedic Science and Technology, New-Delhi. Shri Singh discussed the concept of Yoga and its history referring back to Adi Yogi (Shiva) who gave Yoga skills and techniques to Saptirishi. Shri Singh also enriched the participants on how Yoga was articulated and distributed in different Yugas. It is the year 2015 when united nations recognized the importance of Yoga and declared 21 June as International Yoga Day. Shri Singh helped the participants to learn and practice breathing exercises and some other exercises to release stress and pain originating from modern life. Shri Singh took some examples of universe and helped participants in understanding how the things in the universe are managed with so much of creativity and intelligence. According to him, all this is possible because of divine thoughts which everyone of us can develop by practicing Yoga. Shri Singh also explained Transcendental meditation in which he has got an expertise. Shri Singh discussed the Importance of Samadhi which actually is the source of enormous energy, happiness, creativity. He also emphasized the importance of Yoga in stress management and improving immunity, both in fact are very important and pertinent in today's world. Shri Singh was arranged for this session with the help of Hari-Yamuna Sahyog Samiti, Paonta Sahib.
As part of 6th International Yoga Day, IIM Sirmaur is also organizing an Online Video Blogging Contest among local schools of Paonta Sahib. The contest is organized in two categories pre-primary (Class I to V) and post-primary (Class VI onwards). Three winners (First/Second/Third) will be declared under each category. While the student will receive certificate and cash prizes (First Rs 2000, Second Rs 1000, Third Rs 500 under each category), respective school will receive trophy (First/Second/Third under each category).
