SPIC MACAY event at IIM Sirmaur
Paonta Sahib, August 31 2018: Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur welcomed its newest associate SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) to organise its cultural event with the aim of raising awareness about Indian heritage and encouraging the students to imbibe the values embedded in it. The event was graced by the presence of the Founder of SPIC MACAY himself, Shri Dr. Kiran Seth. The cynosure of the event was Padma Shri Geeta Chandran, an ace choreographer and one of the most celebrated exponents of Bharatanatyam. She was also joined by her 4 accompanists Sri S Shankar (Natuvangam), Sri. K. Venkateswaran (Vocal), Sri. Manohar Balachandirane (Mridangam), Sri Raghavendra Prasath (Violin) and her most ardent disciple Madhura Bhrushundi. The eminent personalities of Paonta Sahib graced the occasion and saw a glimpse of the Life in IIM Sirmaur.
The event commenced with the inauguration and the formal naming of IIM Sirmaur's auditorium as Saam Sabhagaar. In her welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra mentioned how honoured she felt to have a personality as great as Padma Shri Kiran Seth spare his valuable time to be a part of the event. She further mentioned how IIM Sirmaur has taken a leap in terms of promoting art, culture and heritage of this country. She resolved to develop a culture that promotes the ethos of this country and mentioned how she has always encouraged the students to actively engage and participate in cultural events.
After being formally introduced by the hosts, Dr. Kiran Seth oriented and enlightened the audience about the historical background of SPIC MACAY. He also accentuated the significance of including disciplines such as arts and philosophy in the management curriculum. He also mentioned how SPIC MACAY has affected the lives of eminent personalities from our country such as Raghu Ram Rajan and Dr Ashish Nanda over the years.
The inspiring orientation speech of Dr. Kiran Seth was followed by the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony by the honourable guests and Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra. The main event of the evening saw Geeta Chandran and her accompanists deliver yet another stellar Bharatanatyam performance that was appositely acknowledged by a rousing plaudit from the crowd. The event also bore witness to a felicitation ceremony featuring Geeta Chandran, her co artists and Dr. Kiran Seth to acclaim and acknowledge their incessant efforts and hard work over the years. The event concluded with the vote of thanks from Krutikesh Javir, Secretary, Cultural Committee, IIM Sirmaur.
The event turned out to be an enriching experience for the students of IIM Sirmaur consistently accentuating the significance of striking and maintaining the right balance between culture and education while still being able to make giant strides in the corporate world.
