National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), an online talk was delivered by Prof. M. K. Sridhar
With the objective to develop critical understanding on the implications of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), an online talk was delivered by Prof. M. K. Sridhar (Member, NEP Draft Committee) on the topic "Essence of National Education Policy 2020: Implications for Management Education in India" at Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur. While emphasizing on the important features of the NEP 2020, Prof Sridhar summarised the essence of NEP by highlighting four keypoints.
First, the policy exemplified interactions with the multiple stakeholders during its compilation, which allowed multiple iterations toward policy refinement. Second, the NEP judiciously pitches for multidisciplinary approach to Higher Education, with provisions for choice based courses to students. This approach shall eventually do-away with the prevalent narrow focus in the conventional education system. In the third point Prof. Sridhar highlighted the graded autonomy for educational institutions in the country, which aims to pave way for self-sustaining and self-evaluating environment among higher education institutions. Lastly he focused on the research related aspect of NEP 2020, referred to as National Research Foundation. The initiative shall impress upon the clear demarcation of research intensiveness and teaching intensiveness among higher education institutions. He further took several questions from the participants, which further aided in the learnings from the session.
While reflecting on the deliberations, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur, accentuated on the ambitions of IIM Sirmaur. Prof. Rohmetra reflected on two important aspects related to IIM Sirmaur. The first one is on aligning higher education with NEP and the second one to ensure that the indigenous component is deeply ingrained in the educational framework. She also lauded the need of making students oriented toward the societal development rather than merely focused on profit side of the any business.
The talk was coordinated by Dr. Vikrant Kaushal and Dr. Amrinder Singh, both are faculty at IIM Sirmaur.
