IIM Sirmaur Organises a Two Days’ Hands-On-Training Programme On Organic Farming At Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Adopted Villages
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) IIM Sirmaur in collaboration with CSEM (Centre for Sustainability & Environmental Management) conducted a two days’ hands on ‘Training Programme on Organic Farming’ at UBA adopted villages i.e., Kunja and Ajauli (Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh) on October 21-22, 2021, under the able guidance of Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur. The master trainer for the sessions was Mr. Ranjit Singh specialized in organic farming. Dr. Devika Vashisht (UBA Coordinator) gave the welcome remarks and addressed the present problems related to organic farming, market availability and their impact on food consumption pattern.
The session in Kunja was attended by 18 farmers who got a vivid understanding for adoption of organic farming and their future benefits in their day to day farming activities, while the session in Ajauli was attended by 32 farmers who showed their interest in understanding the concept and techniques of organic farming.
All the UBA members also attended the session which included Prof. Amrinder, Prof. Arpita, Prof. Parul and Prof. Rinki. As organic farming is a holistic management system that promotes and enhances agro ecosystem health including biodiversity and soil biological activity. The hands on training session was helpful for the farmers to produce higher yields of crops than the conventional farming methods. Mr. Ranjit Singh explained the process of making different jivamitra followed by the preparation of organic manure. He also explained the future use of organic manure and its implications in the farms.
At the end it was discussed that adoption of organic farming would help the farmers in the soil management, maintaining ecological balance and better returns. Both sessions had Q&A sessions at last. A total of 50 farmers attended the two-days training programme. Participating farmers were appreciative of the initiative undertaken by IIM Sirmaur to support agriculture sector in Himachal Pradesh.
On the occasion, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur extended her best wishes to the participants and the trainer. She also appreciated UBA team for their consistent efforts.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by the UBA Coordinator.
