IIM Sirmaur organised Session on ' Yoga for Peace' to mark Gandhi Jayanti celebrations

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) celebrated 151th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in online mode. A volunteer from the Isha Foundation conducted a webinar on the topic Yoga for Peace.

Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur congratulated the organizing team for organizing this webinar. She said that 2nd Oct is a very important day for all of us. And is celebrated as birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. She elaborated that inner peace is something which everyone looks for. She also endorsed the Chit Shakti technique using which one can plan things with concentration and achieve the same with certainty. Bringing spiritual angle in one's personal life helps in connecting to the power of mind, she said. We often search answers to varied questions outside but , most of the times the answer lies within. Practicing these yoga techniques and other allied interventions in our daily lives can help in relaxing, taking break and provide opportunity and time for introspection. Practicing these techniques also helps in connecting to perceptual world of others, she said. This is also very important for the students in order to manage stress originating because of loss of sleep, personal connect and loss of entertainment. In current pandemic times. However, we need to concentrate in a much more organized manner under guidance and supervision to understand these techniques better", she said.

Earlier, the session by Isha Foundation was a combination of oral and videos instructions. Isha Foundation is a non-profit, spiritual organisation founded in 1992 near Coimbatore, India, by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. It hosts the Isha Yoga Centre, which offers yoga programs under the name of Isha Yoga. The foundation is run entirely by volunteers and it has over 9 million volunteers. The webinar at IIM Sirmaur focused on bringing peacefulness in oneself using inner engineering practices. These inner engineering practices help oneself in controlling body, mind and soul. The webinar also focused on Nadi Shudhi which is one of the popular technique to clean body, mind and soul. Using the power of mind to create what one wants from life can be achieved using another meditation technique called as Chitta Shakti, as explained by the Isha foundation. This also helps in setting peace and happiness as default condition of our mind. Some of these practices with necessary instructions were exhibited during the session .

IIM Sirmaur also conducted an essay writing coopetition for the students of IIM Sirmaur on occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The topic of essay was “Atmanirbhar Bharat – Possibilities & Challenges”. A good number of students submitted their entries. A jury of IIM Sirmaur faculty judged the submissions. MBA first year student Ankit won the first prize while Somya Varma and Ashutosh vishwakarma from Phd first year and MBA second year grabbed the second and third prices respectively. Arjun Raj, a student of MBA first year gave vote of thanks.
