The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) club of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sirmaur organized a virtual cultural dance performance on 30 Oct 2020. Mrs Vishakha N V gave her dance performance. Mrs Vishaka is recipient of several awards for folk dance, group dance, classical dance. She was also dubbed the Best Performer in the Swaralaya Dance Festival.
Professor (Dr) Neelu Rohmetra Director IIM Sirmaur presided over the event and appreciated the efforts of EBSB team in organizing such a virtual cultural performance. She also congratulated the artist Mrs Vishakha for her achievements. The dance performance in online mode has its own challenges but it also brings several opportunities, she said. She also said that this is one of the most beautiful sessions that she has attended in recent times.
Earlier, Mrs. Vishakha gave a small presentation on the various dance forms and their origins. She enlightened the audience on the significance and background of two of the dance forms Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam. This was followed by her elegant performance on the same. The first performance spoke about the quintessential mother-son relationship of Yasoda and Krishna. The event also witnessed a true personification of Nritya (The combination of dance and expression). The primary goal of this session was to make audience acquainted with the rich and traditional history of Kerala. She also spoke on the history of Indian Classical Music. She helped the audiences in understanding that the history of the dance forms dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries and there are various definitions of Bharata Natyam itself. She went on to explain the nitty-gritty of the dance including the various postures, the techniques, the instruments, the repertoire, costumes, and jewels of the dance. She also shared the significance of shrine of Nataraja in science and art of ancient Indian dance forms. This was followed by a barrage of questions from the awestruck audiences.
Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme aims to enhance interaction & promote mutual understanding between people of different states/UTs through the concept of state/UT pairing. The states carry out activities to promote a sustained and structured cultural connect in the areas of language learning, culture, traditions & music, tourism & cuisine, sports and sharing of best practices etc. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from the convenor of the EBSB club Dr. Anshu Agrawal faculty at IIM Sirmaur.
