IIM Sirmaur celebrates 75th Independence Day

Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur celebrated 75th Independence Day of India as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostsav’ with gaiety and fervour. . The event started with a guard of Honour to Professor (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Hon’ble Director, IIM Sirmaur in the campus at Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. The Indian tricolour flag was hoisted by Professor Neelu Rohmetra in the presence of faculty, staff and students of IIM Sirmaur.

Later, Faculty, staff and students gathered in the auditorium of the institute to celebrate the occasion of Independence Day. Prof Rohmetra addressed the gathering and congratulated the entire IIM Sirmaur fraternity on this occasion. She emphasized that this day brings joy, energy, and infuses passion. She requested everyone to understand that we have achieved our independence because of the struggle and sacrifice of our freedom fighters. We should be thankful that we have taken our first breath in Independent India. Let us pay tribute to our sung and unsung heroes and pledge that we will do our best in taking forward this nation to a bright future. A small contribution from every one of us will add to the nation building and our societal upliftment. “Do not wait for directions. Rather, identify the leader within you and lead from the front”, she said.
She also enlightened and threw light on the traits like the hard work, discipline, honesty, and determination etc, which according to her are the backbone of good leadership. She also reiterated that as a founding director of IIM Sirmaur, she shall strive to create individuals who can contribute in institution building and can work together shoulder to shoulder with others. She invocated the audience by saying “It is in our hands to achieve our dreams”. Mistakes are part of life but in ideal situations, one should recognize them, should work on improving them rather than finding faults in others. “Our behavior and our character is key to success”, she pointed out. Towards the end of her speech, she reiterated that the nation has a lot of expectations from the youth and therefore we should work in the direction which makes ‘New India’
The celebrations also witnessed marvellous online and offline cultural performance by the students of IIM Sirmaur and a few members of the staff. Later, Prof Rohmetra felicitated the 12 Corona Warriors of IIM Sirmaur who have rendered impeccable services to the institute. Also, the Sankalp- CSR Cell of IIM Sirmaur screened a video to spread the awareness about “Swachha Himachal Abhiyan” and the IIM Sirmaur fraternity took the pledge for Swachhta. Earlier, a student of Sports Committee of IIM Sirmaur with self- developed video encouraged the gathering for Fit India Movement Initiative - India@75. The Event Management Committee of the institute chaired by Dr. Rinki Dahiya,  in association with Dr. Amrinder Singh, Chair Students Affairs organized the celebrations. Dr Rinki concluded the Independence Day program with the  vote of thanks. The celebrations were anchored by Ms. Srishti Ved Singh and Mr. Ankit Bhardwaj, second- year MBA student of the institute.
