Fourth International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur on 21st June 2018 with full vigour, enthusiasm by the Faculty, staff and students from Doon Valley School, Guru Nanak Mission Public School and The Scholars Home school of Paonta Sahib. It is a noble initiative of our Honble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Prof. Nivisha Singh welcomed and thanked all faculty, staff and school students. She highlighted importance of Yoga and daily life and emphasized that Yoga is not only about exercise, it is much more. It embodies unity of body and action, brings harmony between human and nature and one close to oneself. She stressed on the importance of Yoga in the daily life and encouraged everyone present to practice Yoga every day
Mr. Anoop, qualified and trained Yoga trainer, conducted yoga session. All the participants practiced Yoga under his supervision. Yoga session was of one hour. All Yoga asanas were practiced with great zeal and the trainer explained the health benefits for each of the asana. It ended with Pledge, taken from Ministry of AYUSH website. In essence, the whole session was rejuvenating and refreshing for everyone from their daily routine.
Yoga session was followed by Yogathon competition. In this students were asked to performed sun salutations for maximum number of times in given time. Each school was given 5 minutes and two winners were selected from each school. Winner were Akansha Daria and Rishab Tiwari from Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Aditi Chaudhary and Yuvraj Singh Bains from The Scholars Home School, Tanya Rathour and Nitika Thakur from Doon Vally School.
Finally, poster competition was held. All students participated with full fervour. Theme of competition was Yoga Day-with a message. Duration of the competition was 45 minutes and students were judged on the pre decided parameters- adherence to time and theme, drawing composition, neatness and use of colours. Ms. Jyotsna Roy, Prof. Vaneet Kashyap and Ms. Surabhi Seth of IIM Sirmaur were in the panel to judge the competition. Five winners selected were: Preeti Chaudhary of Guru Nanak Mission Public School scored first position, Inderjeet Kaur of Guru Nanak Mission Public School and Rishika Saklani of The Scholars Home School came second and Harneet Kaur of Guru Nanak Mission Public School and Riya of Doon Valley School stood third. All participants and winners were awarded certificates by Prof. Vaneet Kashyap.
Day ended with felicitation of Yoga trainer and teachers of all schools present for the event by Ms. Jyotsna Roy.
