Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur

Message

It is my privilege to serve IIM Sirmaur, as its founder Director. The Institute promises to be “globally respected institution for excellence in management education”, and is working tirelessly towards its Mission “to develop and foster professionals with competencies in creating and leading future-oriented solutions for sustainable growth, adhering to the highest standards of ethical and human aspects of work in Himachal Pradesh, India, and the world.”

Located in the Himalayas, the residential campus provides an ideal background to educate and train the top minds, away from the commotion of metropolitan cities. The serene natural setting provides an opportunity for the residents to explore the self and appreciate the value of relationships. Here, we connect with all stakeholders as a foundation for life-long learning.

Institute offers management teaching of high quality and encourages allied areas and inter-disciplinary studies. A combination of core full - time faculty and the visiting faculty deliver the curriculum. The teaching-learning processes across varied programmes prepare our students to benchmark themselves with the best in academia and the corporate world. We have focussed on recruiting competent faculty, who can mentor and engage with the bright young minds as well as steer quality research.

In addition to providing impetus to the flagship MBA degree programme, IIM Sirmaur has started the doctoral programme (Ph.D) and sectoral MBA programme in ‘Tourism & Hospitality Management’ from the year 2019-20. Setting up of ‘Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Management’ in 2019 is yet another initiative, which is catering to the larger mandate of addressing issues of environment, livelihoods, swachhta, waste management, sustainability and the like. Indeed, we are championing the cause of indigenous exploration in management studies and serving the needs of the local communities through CSR and community engagement interventions.

National Education Policy (NEP-2020) is a revolutionary step in the Indian Education System, which emphasises flexibility, Indian ethos, and internationalisation of higher education in an authorised and much structured manner. A dedicated team of faculty at IIM Sirmaur is currently working on the introduction of new programmes in line with the spirit of NEP – 2020, incorporating the elements of flexibility and multi-disciplinary perspectives.

Our alumni are serving leading positions in the corporate as our brand ambassadors. From small number of 20 students in the first batch in 2015, today we have grown and scaled up to host nearly 500 students across various programmes in Academic Year 2021-22. Similarly, the systems and procedures have been strengthened to bring clarity in processes as a pre-requisite for fair governance.

Institute currently operates from a temporary campus, with all facilities and resources in place. The construction of the permanent campus (Phase-1) has started in August 2020 over 210 acres of allotted land at Dhaula Kuan, District Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs. 392.51 Crore. The Foundation Stone of the permanent campus was laid on August 04, 2020. In the coming years, IIM Sirmaur is likely to have one of the finest infrastructures in the Country with state-of-art technology and modern amenities for the students, faculty and staff. Special care has been taken to incorporate the local, vernacular cultural ethos and the heritage of Himachal Pradesh in the design of the permanent campus.

During the current testing times, when the entire world is combatting with Covid-19 pandemic, we also learnt to wade through tough waters to survive against all odds and threats alike. In 2020, IIM Sirmaur converted these unprecedented times into a prospect to experiment with digital interface and introduce remote access to resources in its operations. The energies and resources of the Institute geared up to embrace the challenges posed by the onslaught of Covid-19 pandemic. The engagement of classes, interactions have shifted from offline to virtual online mode, since the beginning of the Academic Year 2020-21. Likewise, the ‘Seminars’ have evolved into ‘Webinars’, connecting virtually the resource persons and the delegates from across the sectors and boundaries conveniently.

The dedicated full-time young faculty is working committedly to provide the needed academic rigour. Similarly, a competent team of staff is making it possible on day-to-day basis to extend support to all stakeholders suitably.

We have reinvented ourselves proactively with collective wisdom, to march on in pursuit of the legacy and character of IIM family. As an Institution of national importance, the Institute is enthusiastic to forge a stronger association with industry, government, society and the communities.

Kind regards,

Neelu Rohmetra
