IIM Sirmaur Organized Webinar on Solar Energy on World Energy Efficiency Day
Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Management(CSEM) at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sirmaur in collaboration of Entrepreneurship, start-ups and incubation committee conducted online training session titled “Learn To Fabricate a Solar Lamp and Be an Entrepreneur”. The Event was organized on the occasion of World Energy Efficiency Day on 7 Oct, 2020. The CSEM was established in the year 2019 as an initiative of Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur. The objective behind establishment of the centre is to promote active research in the field of environment sustainability and steer institute’s efforts in the similar direction in effective and systematic manner.
The introductory session was delivered by Dr Arpita Ghosh (Coordinator of CSEM) mainly highlighting the types of energy sources, impact of fossil fuels on climate change and global warming. She also stressed on the importance of using renewable energy to minimize the energy crisis and fighting climate change.
Later, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, IIT Bombay who is also the founder of Energy Swaraj Foundation conducted an online session. The basic motto of this foundation is “Energy by locals for locals”. The foundation collaborates with local academic institutions to establish Energy Swaraj Ashrams, solar incubation centres to enable and nurture local entrepreneurs. Prof. Solanki emphasized on how modern lifestyle is extremely energy-intensive. In the era of climate change causing forest fires, floods, cyclones, heat waves etc, there is a need put efforts to minimize and mitigate the damage. He called-out the young generation to come forward and take an active part in environmental protection, sustainable use of resources and adopting clean energy sources.
The training and demonstration was held by Mr. Harshad Supal, Vice President- supply chain management of Energy Swaraj foundation. He focused on the importance of utilization of solar energy.
