IIM Sirmaur Organises a “Women Health and Hygiene Camp” at Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Adopted Village Kunja

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) IIM Sirmaur organised a day-long programme, “Women Health and Hygiene Camp” in the UBA adopted village Kunja Matralion (Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh) on 10th November 2021, under the able guidance of Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur. The expert for the programme was Ms. Aditi Sharma, Community Health Officer at Kunja, Paonta Sahib, HP.

The camp was conducted at Rajkiya Paathshala Kunja. Dr. Devika Vashisht (UBA Coordinator) gave the welcome remarks and addressed the present problems related to women health and hygiene. She shared the reason and need for conducting this camp at Kunja wherein she mentioned that during one of their surveys conducted at UBA adopted villages, the UBA team came across a few important observations, such as, lack of awareness about adolescence among school going girls and dearth of sentience among ladies especially the old women about sanitation, use of sanitary napkins and disposal of menstrual waste. She said that through this camp, IIM Sirmaur would like to make an effort to create awareness among women villagers of Kunja Matralion and sensitize them about adolescence, sanitation, use of sanitary napkins and disposal of menstrual waste and other related matters. Later, Ms. Aditi Sharma took the session ahead and briefed all the females gathered at the camp about puberty, cleanliness, its need, use of sanitary napkins and discarding menstrual waste and the related stuff. She also updated the married females on how and why to keep and maintain children health and hygiene. Around 26 women villagers attended the session. The UBA faculty members, Prof. Arpita & Prof. Parul and the research associates attended the session. Participating women villagers were appreciative of the initiative undertaken by IIM Sirmaur to support the UBA adopted village Kunja. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by the UBA Coordinator.
