Paonta Sahib, August 15th: IIM Sirmaur today celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with much enthusiasm and ecstasy. Feelings of patriotism were ignited when the National flag was hoisted by Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur. This was followed by the traditional National Anthem ceremony setting the tone for the rest of the event. The attendees then gathered in the auditorium to witness the cultural performances by the students.
The beginning of the celebrations was marked by the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony by the Director. Student's Cultural Committee organized the event where the students from both the batches presented various cultural activity. One of the students recited a Bengali poem entitled "Prarthana" by Rabindranath Tagore. The program reached its pinnacle with singing and dancing performances by both the batches. All these performances created an ambience of patriotic fervor and was enjoyed to the hilt by the audience.
The event culminated with the Director's address wherein she highlighted how the sense of freedom, realization, commitment and understanding can push all as citizens of the nation to make small contributions to make large differences in their respective lives. Further, she shed light on how independence is all about showing courage, making the right choices and displaying the ability to commit to the purpose and contribute in every manner possible and how aspiration to succeed is guided by an understanding of self as well as all associations. She emphasized on the importance of exploring all possible paths to understand the goals in life and the ways in which the associations help in giving back to the society whereas failure to understand the meaning of life should probe to keep exploring and examining. She accentuated the significance of accommodating and respecting mutual differences to foster a sense of togetherness, to promote the sense of integration and working in chains. Describing the importance of maximizing the contribution to society, she focused on the need of supplementing and complementing abilities and the value of appreciating differences in teams. Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra urged everyone to come together to salute the sacrifices made by the leaders and the previous generations and create a new beginning.
