IIM Sirmaur holds its 1st Convocation
The 1st Annual Convocation of Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur was held on April 8th, 2017. Shri Virbhadra Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest on the occasion and delivered the Convocation Address.
Hon’ble Chief Minister urged the graduating students to focus on the development of rural and hilly areas along with under privileged section of society so that their expertise could help in growth and expansion of economic activities. He said that management tools could help in simplifying complex issues related to environment sustainability, energy security, healthcare and sustainable development. The emergence of India and China as major economies in the world has powered the way for enormous business opportunities and requirement of capable managers. He urged the faculty of the institute to have a broader and inclusive view of the management needs in the country. He assured full support for the development and the growth of IIM Sirmaur towards becoming a bellwether of management education in the country.
In all, 20 students of IIM Sirmaur received diplomas in Post Graduate Programme in Management. The institute started its operations in 2015 and with this, the outgoing batch of 2017, IIM Sirmaur has got its first alumni base which will be serving community dedicatedly through their contributions in various domains. Roziwala Suraj Hiralal received the award for the overall batch topper and Anas Ahmad was awarded for best all-round performance.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Board of Governors of IIM Sirmaur, Shri Ajay S. Shriram said, “Today is indeed a very special and historic day as there will be only one founding batch, so congratulations to all the students. I am privileged to be the first Chair of the Institute and I am confident that with its establishment, a new era in Management Education in India will begin”.
He also thanked Union Government and the State Government for their support. He mentioned that the presence of the Chief Minister is a reflection of the importance attached to IIM Sirmaur.
Addressing the gathering, Professor (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur highlighted the initiatives at IIM Sirmaur. She emphasized on integrating management education with local and global aspirations. She further added that IIM Sirmaur strives to deliver quality education training and research in Management in an enabling environment, with the focus on indigenous areas and innovative practices, to develop sensitive corporate leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
While congratulating the passing out batch, Professor Rohmetra said that “Life is all about taking small little firm steps that are in the right direction and lead us towards the desired vision”.
Professor Rohmetra emphasized that one of the major initiatives at IIM Sirmaur shall include integrating Management Education with local and global aspirations alike: to train to believe that Management Education is not just maintaining standards for employment, it is more about learning to serve societal concerns, through corporate leadership who practice ethics and commitment to larger considerations.
IIM Sirmaur recognizes the parameters of Knowledge and Leadership by reflecting it through its logo which incorporates an open book symbol (to represent the knowledge creation and learning) and in between there is a Sun symbol (to embody the society’s or nation’s pride in the form of leadership which IIM Sirmaur strives to achieve).
The inaugural ceremony for IIM Sirmaur was held on 4th September 2015 with the start of classes for the first batch of the Post Graduate Programme in Management at IIM Sirmaur. The Post Graduate Programme in Management is a two-year, full-time residential programme.
The temporary campus of IIM Sirmaur is equipped with state of art infrastructure with fully air conditioned classrooms, modern presentation systems, fully residential in campus accommodation with in-house mess facility. The campus at Paonta Sahib is well connected by road from Dehradun, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
Others prominent persons who attended the Convocation were Smt. Vidya Stokes, Irrigation & Public Health Minister, Horticulture, Information Technology of H.P, Shri Gangu Ram Musafir, Deputy Chairman of Planning Board, Himachal Pradesh, Shri Vinay Kumar, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. Anil Dattaraya Sahasrabudhe, AICTE Chairman, Sh. Vinayak Chatterjee, Chairman, Feedback Infra (P) ltd., Sh. Rajeshwar Goyal, Director Technical education, Himachal Pradesh, Sh. Rajesh Gupta, President Corporate Strategy, DCM Shriram Ltd., Mr. Arjun Uppal, Vice President, Corporate affairs, DCM Shriram Ltd., besides officials of district administration, political dignitaries and members of civil society.
An exhibition highlighting the journey of Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur since its inception in 2015 was also showcased on the occasion.
